22 miles east of Atlanta · 17 acres · ¼ mile tree-lined drive
There's a quarter-mile driveway through the trees before you get here. By the time you arrive, something in you has already started to let go.
You could drive up to the North Georgia mountains. Plenty of people do. Or you could drive thirty minutes east of Atlanta, and find there is this special place called Casa di Matassa — a Georgia most people have forgotten about.
A gated entrance. A quarter-mile gravel driveway, Driving Miss Daisy style, winding through a canopy of trees. And then — a house that was clearly put together by someone who really thought about it.
Whole-house Sonos. Italian espresso machine. Cold water in the bottle cooler. Fiber internet if you need it, though you may find you don't. Fresh flowers. A bottle of wine with your name on it. Dinner, prepared and waiting.
The dogs run the fenced acre like they own it. The kids might too. Horse-riding school down the road. The Yellow River trail if they want to wander. The back deck with bird feeders. The three-burner grill. The kind of afternoon that doesn't ask anything of you.
Housekeeping every morning. Far away has never been so close.
Most people come for a weekend. A lot of them stay longer. There's something about this place — the way the trees come up close to the house, the way the mornings feel unhurried — that makes it hard to leave on schedule.
Families arrive a little frayed and leave closer than they've been in years. Couples remember why they loved each other. People who haven't slept well in months sleep well here. We don't entirely know why. We just know it happens.
